Teachers deserve better. Students deserve better. Our education system needs serious reform and schools or districts across the country are standing up for their classrooms and communities to demand better. Below are 35 protest signs photographed from the United Teachers of Los Angeles’s March for Education, demanding the Los Angeles Unified School district to decrease class sizes, give teachers raises, decrease standardized testing, increase charter school accountability, and guarantee nurses, counselors, and librarians at every school site. While protests and strikes can cause anxiety and worry, they can also cause empowerment and true change. If you found yourself on this post because you are currently fighting for similar demands, I hope you find inspiration below.
More impressive than this creativity seen by teachers, students, and allies, is our resilience. We are speaking up and out for a better education system because our youth is worth it. When faced with injustice, it is easy to become discouraged, disillusioned, or simply burnt out. But we must not sit idly by. We must continue to fight and look at the activism of our peers both in and outside our own cities to be reminded that we are not alone and that we will win.
